Will senators stand for public lands?<\/p>\n
Alaskans (and all Americans) should be alarmed to hear that the U.S. Senate is considering the sale of millions of acres of public land across the country. The proposed bill would mandate that between 2 and 3 million acres of our public land would be sold, and over 250 million acres of land have been identified as eligible to be sold to “any interested party.” This includes the public land immediately adjacent to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and the Takshanuk Mountains and Chilkoot River in Haines.<\/p>\n
Consider what’s at stake. Your favorite public fishing, hunting or hiking spot could be sold off, meaning you would no longer be able to access it. This would set a dangerous precedent, one where Congress can bypass public review to liquidate our public lands.<\/p>\n
Public lands make America great, and public lands should remain in public hands in perpetuity. Public lands are one of America’s and Alaska’s greatest gifts.<\/p>\n
Will senators stand for their constituents and the overwhelming majority of the American public who want to protect public lands? Or will they sell our public lands away to fund tax cuts for the wealthy? Call Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and tell them: Don’t sell our public lands!<\/p>\n
