I’m curious about the logic behind the economic arguments against Megaship-Free Saturdays (call it what it is) and other cruise ship limits. They seem to imply that 15 years ago we were all living in abject poverty, and now that cruise ship traffic has massively increased we spend our days eating caviar for breakfast and drinking expensive French vintages for lunch. I suspect that the bank accounts of many of us would suggest otherwise.<\/p>\n
We have seen this argument again and again for over 100 years: if you make it harder to do business, you will suffer economically. In all those 100 years that doomsday prediction has yet to come true. And even if it did, there are more ways to suffer than economically. There is no point in monetary wealth if it means that we can’t enjoy the non-monetary wealth that comes from living in a place like Juneau.<\/p>\n
